kids snacks: sweet puff pastry twirls (four flavours)

Something magical has happened. I baked these sweet treats from scratch and they weren't a complete disaster taste truly fabulous. These are my sweet take on the old parmesan twists. I experimented with a few flavours but I think the possibilities are endless? I think?

Harry was positively thrilled with being able to taste test these. I think they're perfect for preschoolers and primary school aged children.

Ingredients
I used 1 sheet of pastry and made 8 twists (two of each flavour)

1 sheet of frozen puff pastry (salt and fat reduced)
1 egg white, lightly whisked

Caramelised banana
1/4 banana cut into strips
1 tsp brown sugar
1 tsp butter

Apple cinnamon
2 tbs apple puree (or apple sauce)
Sprinkling of cinnamon

Ricotta berry
3 raspberries
1 tbs ricotta

Nutella
1 tbs Nutella

Method

1/ Preheat your oven to 180oC and line a tray with baking paper.

2/ Cut the pastry square into 8 equal strips.

Caramelised banana

3/ Melt butter in a small frypan over medium. Add brown sugar and stir to dissolve. Add the slices of banana and cook for a few minutes, continue spooning sugar mixture over the banana.

4/ Place banana mixture along the strips of pastry. Holding both ends, twist the pastry until the spirals meet/cover the banana (around 3 twists). Brush the spiral with egg white.

5/ Bake in the oven for around 10 minutes or until golden.

Apple cinnamon

3/ Spoon the apple sauce onto the pastry strips. Sprinkle cinnamon over the top.

4/ Holding both ends, twist the pastry until the spirals meet (around 3 twists). Brush the spiral with egg white and sprinkle a bit more cinnamon.

5/ Bake in the oven for around 10 minutes or until golden.

Ricotta berry

3/ Combine the berries and ricotta in a small bowl. Spoon the mixture over the pastry strips.

4/ Holding both ends, twist the pastry until the spirals meet/enclose the berries (around 3 twists). Brush the spiral with egg white.

5/ Bake in the oven for around 10 minutes or until golden.

Nutella

3/ Spread the Nutella over the pastry strips.

4/ Holding both ends, twist the pastry until the spirals meet/cover the Nutella (around 3 twists). Brush the spiral with egg white.

5/ Bake in the oven for around 10 minutes or until golden.
